“Lights On” in Johnsburg

The “Lights On” Committee is once again planning for the month-long celebration of the upcoming holidays and the winter ski season which, for over 39 years, has been called simply “Lights On”. The Theme “Lights On” was issued as a call to action to the community, on Thanksgiving Weekend, to turn the community lights on and welcome the upcoming winter season.

Over the years this committee, made up of residents and businesspeople from the Johnsburg Community, has worked together to create a month-long community celebration of all things winter. Residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses with white lights, natural greenery, and red bows, to create a unified theme. The choice of white lights allows you to leave the lights up all winter even after you have unplugged the Christmas colors. This season businesses and residents can find fresh handmade local balsam fir wreaths at H’art Gallery and Christmas Trees, and Wreaths by Lisa at Hudson River Trading Co. on Main Street.

Municipal Holiday Lighting to return to North Creek

Thanks to The Town of Johnsburg, and Warren County Bed Tax, fifteen low-wattage LED holiday light fixtures should be installed by Thanksgiving. New for 2024 will be the lighting of the existing streetlights utilizing the theme of white lights, natural greenery, and red bows.

The lighting effort is intended to do two things. The first five 7.5’ star sprays will be mounted on the five light poles that parallel the Main Entrance into the business district. This effort is intended to beautify and light the primary entrance into the village and encourage visitors. The winter-fest snowflakes will be spread on poles from the intersection of 28N and Main Street to the Riverfront Park. The lighting was given to the Town of Johnsburg by the Gore Chamber of Commerce and will be up for the ski season.

Town of Johnsburg Light’s On Decorating Contest

The community again encourages businesses, non-profits, and residents to vie for the prize! Register your residence, business, or non-profit at the Town Hall by calling 518-251-2421 ext. 2 and give Joann your address for the competition. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated in several categories. The 3 categories for the best decorated are “best residence”, “best not-for-profit”, and “best business”.  The prize is $300 cash in each category. Registration deadline is December 6th. Judging will take place from December 9th through December 11th. Winners will be announced at the Town Board meeting on December 17th.
