ABOUT CAROL A. WHITNEY
Carol Ann Whitney was born in western New York State, and grew up in Michigan. After living in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Connecticut she now resides on the idyllic Crystal Lake – ‘Inside the Blue Line.’ She graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, and Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Having earned BA and MA degrees in English Literature, Journalism and Creative Writing, she doubled back and pursued her first love – ART.
Along the way she took countless classes and workshops. Her most memorable teachers were Grace Cole, Sanford Roth and Katherine Cartwright. Her drawings and paintings are in several private collections, and she has published two books of art and memoir.
She and her husband raised three children and she is now the proud grandmother to eleven exceptionally grand granddaughters. Over the years she has enjoyed playing with her gaggle of girls, as well as playing with the vibrancy of color as witnessed in her work. She relishes the freedom of stylized shapes as seen in the form of her paintings, and is most gratified when she can bring a smile to someone’s face through her art.
In this particular series, “Coloring Inside the Blue Line,” Whitney attempts to pay homage to her beloved Adirondacks with her characteristic ‘tongue in cheek humor’ and eye-catching color. It is her belief that while she takes her art seriously, she is best served by not taking herself too seriously.
